United 777s Collide on Ground at SFO, FAA Probes
Two United Airlines Boeing 777s clipped wingtips at San Francisco International Airport at 12:35 a.m. on May 6, 2025, while preparing for departure in a ground area not directly overseen by air traffic controllers. The incident led to the cancellation of both international flights bound for Sydney and Hong Kong. All 508 passengers and 32 crew members deplaned safely and reported no injuries. United Airlines is working to rebook affected travelers. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the collision, which follows a similar recent incident in April at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and has raised concerns about ground safety and controller shortages. The FAA has not yet released the cause of the San Francisco collision.
