ZZ Top's Frank Beard Absent from Australia Tour Due to Health Issues

ZZ Top drummer Frank Beard will miss the band's upcoming Australia and New Zealand leg of the Elevation Tour due to ongoing health issues, following medical advice that he continue his physical therapy for a longer period to ensure a full recovery. John Douglas, the band's longtime drum tech and previous fill-in, will continue to substitute for Beard throughout the Down Under tour. The band and Beard's physicians have expressed optimism about his progress but emphasized that total recovery must take priority, prompting this extended absence. Beard previously stepped away from the U.S. leg of the tour for the same health concerns. Despite Beard's absence, ZZ Top, joined by George Thorogood & The Destroyers and other supporting acts, will proceed with the scheduled performances in both Australia and New Zealand.
