Idaho Board Approves 3.5% Tuition Increase for Colleges
The Idaho State Board of Education has approved a 3.5% tuition and fee increase for the 2025/26 academic year at all four-year public institutions in the state, citing inflationary pressures and rising operational costs, including state-mandated employee cost of living adjustments. Board President Kurt Liebich emphasized that Idaho's tuition rates remain among the lowest in the nation and described the increase as reasonable and necessary for institutional sustainability. The hike will result in different tuition amounts at each university, with figures ranging from about $7,876 to $9,400 for resident undergraduates. Students have noted that Idaho's affordability is a key factor in their decision to attend college in the state. In addition, the Board appointed Dr. Jeremiah Shinn as Boise State University’s interim president, following Dr. Marlene Tromp’s departure. The next regular Board meeting is scheduled for June 2025.
