India Test-Fires Nuclear-Capable Agni-Prime From Rail

On September 25, 2025, India successfully test-fired the intermediate-range Agni-Prime (Agni-P) missile from a rail-based mobile launcher integrated with the national rail network, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced. The canisterised, nuclear-capable missile has a range of up to 2,000 km and features high-accuracy guidance including ring-laser gyro INS and micro-INS with optional GPS/NaVIC. The rail-mobile launcher can move across the rail network without preconditions, giving cross-country mobility, reduced visibility and short-reaction launch capability that strengthens strategic deterrence. The flight was tracked by ground stations, met all mission objectives, and Singh congratulated the DRDO, Strategic Forces Command and the Armed Forces, saying the test places India among a select group of nations with rail-based canister-launch capability. DRDO will carry out further tests and pre-induction trials to validate the system before formal induction into the armed forces.
