Utah Murray Mother Charged Child Torture Two Children
In Murray, Utah, a 42-year-old mother identified in several reports as Elizabeth Rose Conlin was charged with multiple felonies including child torture and aggravated child abuse, plus obstruction, witness tampering, tampering with evidence and related misdemeanors after her 11-year-old son told police he and his 8-year-old sister endured years of physical abuse; prosecutors say the children began to feel safe to disclose the abuse only after Conlin’s unrelated arrest in July, and her former partner, Kalon Ray Colvin, was previously charged in September. Charging documents allege repeated violent punishments — including being spanked roughly 40 times with a red belt (the sister about 10 times), beatings with a wooden spoon, being forced to stand in a corner for hours, continuous strikes to the neck/face/limbs, and being told to blame Colvin or fabricate a fall to explain injuries. Investigators also allege Conlin instructed witness tampering and destroyed evidence, and one report notes the child’s phone was thrown and broken during incidents. Separately, in Westover, West Virginia, 21-year-old Cheyann Reichard was charged with felony child abuse after a 14-day-old infant was hospitalized with multiple severe injuries — including two skull fractures, five broken bones and possible brain injuries — and Reichard was jailed with no bond set.
