Abbe Lowell Launches Firm for Trump-Targeted Clients
Prominent criminal defense attorney Abbe Lowell has launched a new law firm aimed at representing clients targeted by the Trump administration’s recent executive orders against major law firms and individuals involved in legal challenges or investigations related to the former president. The firm, Lowell & Associates, has recruited lawyers who resigned from large firms that made pro bono deals with the Trump administration, including Rachel Cohen and Brenna Trout Frey, who criticized their previous employers for not sufficiently standing up for the rule of law. Among the firm's initial clients are New York Attorney General Letitia James, recently referred for federal criminal investigation, former Homeland Security official Miles Taylor, and whistleblower attorney Mark Zaid, all of whom have faced punitive actions linked to Trump’s directives. The firm also represents entities challenging the federal government's revocation of grant funding. Lowell, known for representing high-profile figures from both parties, says the firm will provide a nimble alternative to Big Law in a politicized legal environment. Several other law firms have either pledged millions in free legal work to the administration to avoid sanctions or are actively contesting the executive orders in court.
