Amazon Cuts 14,000 Corporate Jobs Amid AI Shift
Amazon announced it will cut about 14,000 corporate roles as part of a multi-year effort to reduce bureaucracy, lower costs and shift resources toward AI and other strategic priorities. The reductions primarily affect corporate teams — reports named areas such as HR, advertising, management, AWS, devices, gaming and payments — while warehouse roles are expected to be largely spared, and early notifications have impacted markets including India and the UK. Senior vice president Beth Galetti framed the move around AI, saying the company will remove layers, increase ownership and continue hiring in key areas through 2026. Amazon said the 14,000 reductions represent roughly 4% of its about 350,000 corporate workforce, that affected staff will have about a 90-day window to seek internal roles and will receive severance and other benefits if they cannot be relocated, and that managers are being trained to communicate the changes. The company warned this round may not be the last, earlier reports had suggested cuts up to 30,000, and shares rose modestly after the announcement as investors weighed cost savings and continued AI investments.
