Florida Attorney General Launches Criminal Investigation Into Roblox Over Child Predator Allegations

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has launched a criminal investigation into the online gaming platform Roblox, accusing it of being a "breeding ground for child predators" and alleging that the company has failed to protect children adequately. The investigation follows a civil subpoena issued earlier this year regarding Roblox's child protection policies, with Uthmeier highlighting insufficient age verification protocols and inadequate monitoring of sexual content involving young children. Uthmeier stated that predators often pose as children to groom minors through messaging and solicit explicit content, sometimes leading to physical abuse. Despite Roblox's claims of having implemented over 100 safety enhancements and establishing new parental control measures, Uthmeier maintains that the company prioritizes profit over child safety and has not done enough to prevent exploitation on the platform. The Attorney General emphasized Florida's commitment to holding Roblox accountable and stopping child predators, with over 1,000 arrests related to such cases in the state this year. Roblox has not commented directly on the criminal investigation but continues to assert its aim to be the "safest place on the internet."
