Funeral Honors Fallen Chicago Fire Capt. David Meyer
Chicago Fire Captain David Meyer, a 28-year veteran, was honored Tuesday in a funeral service after dying in the line of duty last week while battling a garage fire on Chicago's West Side. Meyer, 54, is survived by his wife and four children and is remembered for his leadership and dedication. A public visitation was held Monday in Norwood Park, attended by hundreds, including city officials and fellow firefighters. Charles Green, 44, has been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated arson for allegedly setting the fire that killed Meyer. Meyer is the first Chicago firefighter to die in the line of duty this year, and his name will be added to the fallen firefighter memorial wall. Community tributes include red ribbons along North Milwaukee Avenue and numerous donations.
