Fire Displaces 22 Residents in Norwalk, Connecticut

A fire broke out Tuesday afternoon at a multi-family residential building on Lexington Avenue in Norwalk, displacing 22 residents and prompting a response from over 40 firefighters. Crews arrived around 2:30 p.m. and quickly evacuated occupants on the second and third floors, many of whom were unaware of the fire. The blaze was primarily located on the third floor and in hidden spaces behind knee-walls, and firefighting efforts were complicated by a failed fire hydrant and the building being operated as a rooming house, increasing both the occupancy and the challenge of the response. The fire was raised to a third alarm due to these factors but was eventually brought under control without any reported injuries. The American Red Cross is providing temporary housing assistance to the displaced residents. The Norwalk Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
