Stronghold Fire 62% Contained, Ongoing Evacuations Near Tucson
Firefighters in southern Arizona have made significant progress in containing the Stronghold Fire, which burned 2,138 acres since it ignited near Sunsites-Pearce in Cochise County. The fire is now 62% contained, with no recent growth, and crews have secured its north and east sides. Multiple evacuation orders were issued for communities near Sunsites and Cochise Stronghold, with various areas under GO (evacuate), SET (prepare), and READY (be alert) statuses. About 265 personnel, including hotshot and hand crews, engines, water tenders, and air support, have been assigned to manage the fire and protect homes and infrastructure. The fire has destroyed one outbuilding, and its cause remains under investigation. Recreational areas and campgrounds in the affected zones have also been closed due to the fire threat.
