Lil Durk Indictment Drops Lyrics Claim, Adds Stalking Charge

Federal prosecutors have issued a new indictment against rapper Lil Durk in his murder-for-hire case, notably removing all references to his lyrics after criticism from his legal team and family that the lyrics were being unfairly weaponized. Despite this change, prosecutors added a new charge of stalking resulting in death and maintained that removing the lyrics would not weaken their case, insisting that Durk is not being prosecuted because of his music. Lil Durk's lawyers view the removal as a significant vindication of their arguments against using artistic expression as evidence in criminal proceedings. The updated indictment also deletes an allegation that one of Durk’s co-defendants paid a bounty on his orders. Prosecutors continue to argue that Durk remains a danger to the community and should stay in custody pending trial, while his legal team prepares to challenge his detention and push for his release. The case centers on a 2022 Los Angeles shooting targeting rival rapper Quando Rondo, which resulted in the death of Rondo’s cousin.
