Chris Wilson, a tech entrepreneur from Utah, purchased a historic cruise ship named Wappen von Hamburg on Craigslist in 2008 and spent over $1 million and 15 years restoring it, renaming it Aurora. Despite his extensive efforts, including plans to turn it into a museum, the vessel began sinking in May 2023, leaking pollutants into the waters near Stockton, California. The ship's current state has become a significant environmental and financial burden for the city, which has now repossessed it and is working on its disposal. Wilson, who sold the ship in October 2023, expressed deep regret and sleepless nights over the situation, stating, 'It haunts me and I lose sleep over it.' The project, once a passionate endeavor documented on YouTube, ended in what Wilson described as the hardest decision of his life.
