Halo Campaign Evolved Coming 2026 on Game Pass

Halo: Campaign Evolved is a ground-up Unreal Engine 5 remake of 2001’s Halo: Combat Evolved, due in 2026 for Xbox Series X|S, PC and — for the first time — PlayStation 5, and will be available Day 1 on Xbox Game Pass (PC and Ultimate). The project is campaign-focused with no competitive multiplayer, rebuilding levels, remaking cinematics and audio (including a remastered score), and adding three entirely new prequel missions that expand the story. Gameplay modernizations include optional sprint, aiming with all ranged weapons, vehicle hijacking, new weapons and enemy behaviors (including Flood Pure Forms and tougher Hunters), Challenge Skulls, and AI and level-design fixes to remove old quirks. Co-op supports two-player split-screen and four-player online with full cross-play and cross-progression. Microsoft and Halo Studios say this is a true remake intended to honor the original and help prepare the franchise’s future for its 25th anniversary, while the PS5 launch underscores Microsoft’s multiplatform strategy and the effective end of Halo’s Xbox exclusivity. Early hands-on impressions praise the updated visuals and art direction but report mixed reactions to some modern changes, and developers say tuning will be platform-specific.
