USMNT schedules September friendlies vs South Korea, Japan in New Jersey, Ohio
The U.S. men's national soccer team will play two key friendlies in September 2025 against Asian powerhouses South Korea and Japan as part of their preparation for co-hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The first match will be against South Korea on September 6 at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey, followed by a game against Japan on September 9 at Lower.com Field in Columbus, Ohio. These matches will be the USMNT's first after the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup and one of four international windows before the World Cup, providing vital opportunities to test against strong opponents. Japan has already qualified for the 2026 World Cup and boasts a 12-match unbeaten streak since February 2024, while South Korea leads their World Cup qualifying group and is close to securing qualification. Historically, the U.S. holds a competitive record against both teams, but recent encounters have seen Japan defeat the U.S., and South Korea holds a slight edge in their series. These friendlies, broadcast on multiple networks, will help the U.S. build momentum and finalize its roster under coach Mauricio Pochettino ahead of next summer's tournament.
