Museveni Endorses Starlink's Entry to Boost Internet Access in Uganda

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has endorsed the entry of Elon Musk’s Starlink, a satellite internet service by SpaceX, to expand affordable and reliable internet access in Uganda, particularly in underserved rural regions. Museveni expressed appreciation for Starlink’s commitment following a meeting with company representatives, highlighting the potential for the technology to bridge the digital divide and accelerate socioeconomic transformation. Starlink aims to disrupt a market currently dominated by MTN Group and Bharti Airtel, with hopes of lowering internet costs and increasing competition. Although Starlink has applied for regulatory approval, some reports indicate formal licensing is still pending. Experts and officials believe the partnership could significantly enhance Uganda's digital infrastructure, benefiting education, small businesses, and national development goals. The move aligns with Starlink's broader strategy to expand digital connectivity across Africa, having already launched services in multiple other African countries.
