Australian YouTuber Matt Fox Arrested in Japan on Drug Charges

Matthew Fox, a prominent YouTuber and founder of the running media company Sweat Elite, was arrested in Osaka, Japan, for allegedly attempting to smuggle THC tablets into the country, which has strict drug laws. The 38-year-old Australian runner traveled to Japan for the 2025 Osaka Marathon but dropped out of the race after 22 kilometers. Fox has previously discussed his use of THC gummies for anxiety and sleep management, and while he claimed to avoid bringing them into Japan, he attempted to ship THC tablets via an international courier service. This incident marks Fox's second legal trouble in Japan, following a 2023 lifetime ban from a half marathon for running under another person's bib. If convicted, he faces severe penalties, including potential imprisonment and deportation. Fox denies the drug smuggling allegations and has become inactive on social media since the incident.
