Jayden Daniels Dislocates Elbow, Likely Headed to IR
In Sunday’s 38–14 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels dislocated his left (non-throwing) elbow late in the fourth quarter after a scramble and awkward tackle; he was helped off with his arm immobilized, received X-rays that showed no fracture, and will undergo an MRI to determine the extent of the injury. League sources say the injury "may not be as bad as it could've been," but Daniels is expected to miss several weeks and is likely to be placed on injured reserve (minimum four-game absence), though a season-ending determination has not been made. Backup Marcus Mariota is expected to take over starting duties while Washington awaits a firmer timeline. The injury compounds a 3–6 team’s roster concerns after Daniels had already missed time this season with knee and hamstring issues. Coach Dan Quinn faced criticism for keeping Daniels in a largely decided game when the injury occurred; Quinn said the play was not designed to be a scramble, and fans and analysts debated comparisons to Robert Griffin III, which Daniels’ mother disputed.
