Powerball Winner Arrested After Florida Resort Altercation

James Shannon Farthing, who recently split Kentucky's record $167.3 million Powerball jackpot with his mother Linda Grizzle, has been arrested in Florida days after claiming his prize. Farthing faces felony charges for battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest, as well as additional misdemeanors, after allegedly kicking a Pinellas County Sheriff's deputy in the face during an altercation at the TradeWinds Resort in St. Pete Beach. The incident began when officers intervened in a fight involving Farthing, his girlfriend Jacqueline Fightmaster, and another hotel guest, with Farthing also accused of punching the guest. He attempted to flee but was apprehended and remains in custody, while Fightmaster was charged with public intoxication and released. Farthing's arrest follows his admission of a troubled past and multiple prior convictions. The family had just celebrated their windfall, hoping it would provide a fresh start and financial security.
