FBI, Philadelphia Police Arrest 33 in Major Kensington Drug Trafficking Bust
The FBI, in collaboration with the Philadelphia Police Department and federal prosecutors, conducted a major operation targeting the Weymouth Street Drug Trafficking Organization, charging 33 alleged members with conspiracy to distribute controlled substances including fentanyl, heroin, crack cocaine, and cocaine. This organization is accused of sustaining Kensington's notorious open-air drug market for nearly a decade. During coordinated raids, 24 suspects were arrested, with eight already in custody and one still at large, as authorities executed 11 federal search warrants and recovered significant narcotics and firearms. FBI Director Kash Patel praised the operation as a model for reclaiming violent areas and protecting American cities, highlighting the extensive cooperation among law enforcement agencies. The raids took place in multiple homes near key streets in Kensington, including the 3100 block of Weymouth Street, leading to street closures to facilitate the investigation. Further details were provided in a press conference, emphasizing this as the largest federal indictment in the district this century and a strategic effort to dismantle the drug trafficking network at its epicenter.
