Martina McBride Warns AI Deepfakes Threaten Music Industry Integrity

Country music star Martina McBride is actively advocating against the misuse of AI-generated deepfakes, particularly their potential to harm artists by manipulating their voices and likenesses. She testified before the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee in support of the bipartisan NO FAKES Act, which aims to provide federal protection against unauthorized use of an individual's name, image, likeness, or voice. McBride emphasized how deepfakes could distort the messages in her songs, such as "Concrete Angel," by altering lyrics to justify domestic violence, threatening her trustworthiness and legacy. Additionally, McBride pointed out that AI deepfakes facilitate scams, citing an incident where a fan nearly sold his home after receiving a fake AI-generated message from her.
