Minnesota, Other States Boost Traffic Enforcement

Minnesota is intensifying its crackdown on dangerous driving behaviors—especially speeding, impairment, distraction, and lack of seatbelt use—during the '100 deadliest days' from May 1 through Labor Day. Over 300 law enforcement agencies statewide will participate, supported by overtime funding, to address rising traffic fatalities: 15 speed-related deaths have already occurred in 2025, and 137 were recorded last year. Authorities emphasize that speeding is a leading contributor to fatal crashes, with increased fines and possible license suspension for serious offenders. Similar enforcement campaigns are running in areas such as northwest Lincoln, Nebraska, and Lake Mead, Nevada, where speed is also a major crash factor. The effort aims to boost officer visibility, enforce traffic laws, and encourage safer driving during the peak travel season. Officials urge drivers to plan ahead, obey speed limits, and always wear seatbelts to help prevent fatalities.
