Mike Waltz, Trump National Security Adviser, Ousted After Signal Chat Leak
President Trump's national security adviser Mike Waltz and his deputy Alex Wong are leaving the White House following a controversy involving a Signal group chat in which sensitive details about a planned U.S. military operation against Houthi targets in Yemen were inadvertently shared with journalist Jeffrey Goldberg. The chat, which included senior administration officials, revealed operational details and sparked internal security concerns, leading to increased pressure on Waltz to step down. Although President Trump initially defended Waltz and downplayed the security risks, the incident resulted in a loss of confidence among other administration officials. Waltz accepted responsibility for the mishap, describing it as a mistake that caused no harm to Americans, and stated he was unsure how Goldberg was added to the chat. The departures mark the first major staff shakeup of Trump’s second term, as the administration seeks to avoid the turbulence of previous years. Wong, who previously served in various diplomatic roles, is also expected to leave alongside Waltz.
