California Phone Threats Evacuate Brooklyn Queens Schools
A bomb threat called in from a California phone number led to the evacuation of I.S. 49, also known as the William Gaynor Intermediate School, located on Graham Avenue in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The threat, which claimed a bomb was planted in a first-floor bathroom, prompted authorities to evacuate approximately 2,000 students and faculty as a precaution. The call was initially received by New York State Police and then relayed to the NYPD, who launched an immediate investigation and conducted a thorough sweep of the premises using Emergency Service Unit and K-9 units. No bomb or suspicious device was found, and the students were allowed back inside around 10 a.m. Authorities have not made any arrests yet, and the investigation into the source of the call is ongoing. This incident marks the third false threat to a Brooklyn school this year, highlighting ongoing concerns over school safety.
