Former Coral Springs PTO Treasurer Arrested for Embezzling Over $44K

Rebecca Sanon, the former treasurer of the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) at Imagine Charter School in Coral Springs, has been arrested and charged with grand theft and embezzlement after allegedly stealing over $44,000 from the group's account. During her tenure from August 2020 to mid-2024, Sanon is accused of withdrawing funds through nearly 200 fraudulent transactions, including ATM withdrawals, debit card purchases at stores and restaurants, and unauthorized payments such as Florida Power & Light and Uber rides. The missing funds were discovered by PTO members while preparing for an event in July 2024, who initially thought $17,000 was missing but later investigations revealed the total theft amount was significantly higher. Police reports and affidavits state that Sanon admitted to using the money to avoid eviction and cover personal expenses during difficult times, including a car accident. She was arrested, released on a $20,000 bond, and has been ordered to avoid contact with the victims. The scandal has caused distress among parents and the school community, as the stolen money was intended for school improvements.
