Release of The Legend of Maula Jatt Delayed in India

The release of the Pakistani blockbuster film 'The Legend of Maula Jatt' in India has been suspended due to a court-ordered stay and political opposition, marking a setback for the film that was set to be the first Pakistani movie shown in India in over a decade. Scheduled to premiere in Punjab on October 2, 2024, the film is a remake of a 1979 Punjabi classic and has been a commercial success in Pakistan. The Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting instructed the delay, reportedly influenced by protests from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena party, which opposes Pakistani films in India. Despite these challenges, the distributor Nadeem Mandviwalla remains hopeful that the film could foster cultural exchange between the two nations. The film's director, Bilal Lashari, had previously expressed excitement over its impending release, emphasizing the mutual appreciation of art between India and Pakistan.
