South Yorkshire Nears Completion of £10m Fully Accessible Magna Tram-Train Station for 2026 Opening

South Yorkshire is advancing its public transportation infrastructure with the construction of a new £10 million Magna Tram Train station, set to open in early 2026. This station, situated on the route between Sheffield and Rotherham, marks the first addition to the Tram Train network since its 2018 launch and aims to enhance accessibility, reduce congestion, and support regional regeneration. Funded by the UK Government's Transforming Cities Fund and delivered by the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority in partnership with Network Rail and Supertram, the project includes fully accessible platforms, lifts, a pedestrian overbridge, and a Park & Ride facility. The development is part of a broader £110 million investment in Supertram upgrades by 2027, which also encompasses improvements to walking and cycling routes. Local leaders emphasize the station's role in fostering a fairer, greener, and more connected South Yorkshire while boosting economic growth through better transport links and housing development along the Templeborough corridor.
