Chamber Urges Trump for Immediate Tariff Relief
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has called on the Trump administration to grant immediate tariff relief for small businesses, warning that current tariffs are causing rising costs, supply chain disruptions, and could force many companies to close. Chamber President Suzanne Clark made these requests in a series of letters to top administration officials, seeking automatic tariff exclusions for small importers and for products unavailable domestically, as well as a relief process for businesses at risk of job losses. The Chamber cautioned that delays in negotiations could cause irreparable harm to small businesses and potentially trigger a recession. Despite these appeals, the White House has rejected immediate tariff relief, instead proposing the extension of Trump’s 2017 tax cuts as economic support. The administration defends the tariffs as necessary for fair trade, but critics argue they are negatively affecting small businesses and the broader U.S. economy. The Chamber and business leaders continue to press for urgent economic assistance alongside trade objectives.
